Street life 2017

An array of daytime recordings made along street markets and other gathering-places which are pedestrianised by official design or unofficial habit. Playback of each recording is synced to a simple animation plotting the route taken.

Shoppers' and children's voices; footsteps; the beep of a pedestrian crossing; rattle of shopping trolleys and wheeled suitcases; footsteps; recorded music from a stall; an electric alarm sounds briefly; drumming and chanting from a small group of Hare Krishnas at the junction of North End and Church Street; a car horn beeps and a tram goes past on Church Street; traders' cries and voices in Surrey Street market; rustling of carrier bags; rushing noises from air conditioning units; recorded music from a stall; traffic noise; airplane drone.
