Time, date and weather: 3.30 pm, Saturday 26 August 2017. Partly overcast, 24°C, wind 6 mph.

Description: Starting at the junction with Walworth Road and walking eastwards. Loud beeping from a pedestrian crossing; traffic noise, initially loud then receding; voices of shoppers and traders; clatter of clothes-hangers on a rail; recorded music from successive stalls; a man speaks impatiently to a female companion; rustling of carrier bags; a market worker towing a rubbish cart urges pedestrians to mind their backs; noise of traffic passing along Brandon Street and Portland Street; the market thins out and its sounds become more intemittent.

Comments: In 2008 I recorded a street trader with a good line of sales patter at the eastern end of the market. There was no sign of him or his stall in 2017.
