The London Loop

A series of one-minute recordings gathered along the 150 miles of the London Loop footpath during the latter half of 2019. In an alternative presentation all the sounds are merged into a single long recording for a different way of listening.

INTRODUCTION

The London Loop is a 150-mile-long footpath encircling the city.
Some stretches of it are busy and well-maintained, others are obscure and neglected. This webpage presents 52 one-minute recordings made along the London Loop between July and December 2019. The blue arrows here show which way the mic array was pointing for each recording. Click an arrow to hear its recording and read its where, what and when. The weather data were compiled weeks later from archived forecasts. They're reasonably accurate, most of the time. A useful companion throughout was Colin Saunders' The London Loop (Aurum Press, 2017).
