IF YOU’RE ONE of the first few people to come across the London Sound Survey, hello and welcome.
Much of what this website is about should hopefully become clear after a quick look through the main section pages or reading the About section. The London Sound Survey has only just hatched into its caterpillar stage, but the aim is for it to inch towards becoming more collaborative.
So expect to see a couple more features and sections added as the months go by. Until then, enjoy the sounds and use the comments sections to share your news and views.
Hi,
just wanted to wish you well for this terrific project. Only had a quick look around but you already seem to have a wealth of sounds, I can’t see this as being anything but a great success!

Ian,
This is a wonderful idea and beautifully executed. Congratulations! The recordings are excellent and are full of unexpected surprises. Will be coming back to explore further.
The Historical section is a terrific idea and suggests lots of fascinating possibilities. Are you planning on adding older recordings, or perhaps reconstructions, as well as the interesting descriptive material?
Superb!

Hello Paul and thanks for the kind comments.
There are plans for extending the historical side of things, but they’re only in a very early stage, and won’t be seen online for a while.
Older recordings are an attractive idea, but there are formidable rights issues involved. London Sound Survey is best following the path of least resistance for the time being.
Mind you, reconstructions sound like they could be a lot of fun . . .

Hi Ian
The site looks terrific!! Spent an enjoyable few hours listening to all the sounds…very entertaining. Its great that these sounds will be saved for prosperity so to speak. Can’t wait to go off to one of the pubs in Marlebone next time I’m back. Good luck with the project, Marie
