Street life 2017

An array of daytime recordings made along street markets and other gathering-places which are pedestrianised by official design or unofficial habit. Playback of each recording is synced to a simple animation plotting the route taken.

Description: Starting at the junction of Whitecross Street and Old Street. Noise of Old Street traffic, rapidly receding; a van door slams; voices and footsteps of passersby, gradually growing louder and more frequent; a scooter turns into Banner Street; sizzle of food being cooked at market stalls; a fruit and veg seller raises his cry near the junction with Roscoe Street; clatter of cooking utensils; a man up a ladder hammers at a shop sign fitting; the noise of a generator; the sound of 'Come All Ye Faithful' played by a four-piece brass band, growing louder; the music ceases and an onlooker applauds; traffic.
