Street life 2017

An array of daytime recordings made along street markets and other gathering-places which are pedestrianised by official design or unofficial habit. Playback of each recording is synced to a simple animation plotting the route taken.

Description: Starting at the north end of James Street by the junction with Long Acre. Traffic; hubbub of voices; a rickshaw driver squeezes a squeaking toy to attract custom; ringing of rickshaw bells; a man whistles briefly; a distant cheer and round of applause from Covent Garden; a street magician speaks through a PA; a busker sings and plays the guitar at the north-east corner of Covent Garden; a large trolley clatters over cobblestones; another busker sings and plays the guitar at the south-east corner; a taxi turns slowly into Henrietta Street; a street performer speaks briefly through a PA on the west side of Covent Garden; a tour guide addresses a group of tourists; indistinct music.
